Punaro Statement on the Passing of Powell A. Moore

Statement from Maj. Gen. Arnold L. Punaro (USMC, Ret.), former Staff Director, Senate Armed Services Committee (1983-1997), former Chairman, National Defense Industrial Association (2013-2015) on the passing of Powell A. Moore:

McLean, VA

“The Honorable Powell Moore was the gold standard for selfless and exceptional public service. As an Army infantry officer in West Germany in the early days of the Cold War, he laid the foundations for a long and comprehensive career in Washington. All through his time in the Senate, in the White House, in the Departments of Defense, Justice, and State, and even in industry, supporting the men and women in uniform was his hallmark.

A source of sage advice to a new Senate staffer like myself in the early 1970s, Powell Moore was ever-cognizant of political realities and the needs of the nation. I was privileged to have him as a mentor, colleague, friend, and fellow Georgia Bulldogs fan for over 45 years. He helped Army privates and United States Presidents alike.

A role model for all.”
